Course and Program Overview

Educational technology has a strong and growing presence at both the undergraduate and graduate levels as described below:

Graduate

We now have an incredible opportunity for graduate students who wish to work with cutting edge technologies (high definition video conferencing, smart boards, iphones, ipod touches, ipads, mobile laptop carts, synchronous communication tools, etc.) and advanced analysis tools (such as SPSS and Systat for statistical analysis, NVivo for qualitative analysis, etc.). I am particularly interested in open education (multi-access learning environments, the role of social media in teaching and learning, technology adoption models, preservice teacher education, and the role of ICT in health (parent eduation, for example).

I can accept students in either the Curriculum and Instruction Department or the Educational Psychology and Leadership Studies Department. In the Curriculum and Instruction Department, students would apply to the Master’s program in the “Math/Science/Educational Technology” stream (preferrably) or to the Ph.D. Program in “Educational Studies.” In the Educational Psychology and Leadership Studies Department, students would apply to the Master’s program in “Measurement, Evaluation, and Computer Applications” or the Ph.D. program in Educational Psychology.

Undergraduate

We offer a variety of educational technology courses in the Faculty of Education. These are listed on the courses page of this website. I often teach EDCI 336 and EDCI 339.

EDCI 339: Distributed and Open Education
This is an online course that is moving to multi-access. Open website will be shared in the near future.

Please note that the content and design of these courses can vary widely by instructor so I encourage you to try to enroll in sessions offered by myself or Dr. Jillianne Code.

Secondary education teaching areas: Two teaching areas are available. “Computer science” is availabe as a certifiable” teaching area. Also, “ICT Integration” is available as a second teaching area (this latter one is not a certifiable teaching area on its own). Please contact our education advising office for details.

Teaching Philosophy

I have experience teaching a variety of topics to groups of learners across all ages in both face-to-face and distributed settings. My objective is to teach students in such a way as to inspire an enthusiasm for learning. I strive to establish a classroom environment that nurtures student respect for one another and cultivates intellectual challenge, thoughtfulness, and social responsibility.
